Concept & USP

You hike & I take the photos

The outdoor alternative to a classic photo shoot in the studio. You hike, and I accompany you as a certified mountain hiking guide and professional photographer through the Schladming-Dachstein region, photographing you along the way. You need no camera of your own, no photographic knowledge, and nothing to prepare.

With more than ten years of experience behind the camera, I know exactly how to show you or your group at your best in the mountains, with an eye for light, composition and the right moment. Within 3 to 5 working days after the hike you receive your finished, edited photos as a digital download.

Don't worry if you feel unsure in front of the camera: during the hike I give you guidance on poses and pay attention to everything that matters photographically, for example light and shadow.

Good to know before booking

How a hike with me works

01

Enquiry

You book the tour as a private tour just for you and your group, via the booking form or directly with me.

02

All the info you need

After your enquiry you receive all the info again, along with the invoice based on your chosen tour. As soon as the payment has arrived, you receive a confirmation with all the details such as the starting point, the route, a detailed packing list and helpful tips and tricks.

03

Meeting point & getting there

The meeting point is at most a 30-minute drive from the centre of Schladming and is easy to reach by car. You receive the exact address, GPS coordinates and directions in the briefing email the evening before, by 6:00 pm. That way I can adapt the route to the current weather and the group.

04

Safety & weather

The tour takes place in any weather, including rain. It is only cancelled or postponed in case of a safety risk, for example thunderstorms, storms or fresh snow. The decision is made at the latest two hours before the meeting point. We will then agree on a replacement date, or you will get any amount already paid refunded in full. There is no children's discount on tours with photography, because the same photographic effort applies to every person.

05

Hike with professional photography

We hike together, and I photograph alongside. At special spots we stop, and I photograph you on your own or as a group, if you have signed up as a couple, family or group. If you don't know any poses or feel unsure, I give you guidance.

06

After the hike

Editing your images usually takes 3 to 5 working days, though often we are quicker. You get a link to the online gallery with 15 individually edited photos per person plus all unedited shots as a download.

Price comparison

Why a hike with professional photography is worth it

For comparison: a classic outdoor photo shoot in the mountains starts at around 250 € per person and does not include any hiking guidance.

With alongside.outdoor, the hiking guidance, safety briefing and fifteen individually edited shots per person are already included.

Frequently asked questions

What you might still want to know

Do I have to pose or stand still for the photos?

Not unless you want to. I photograph documentary-style during the hike. You hike, and I notice the moments and capture them. If you like, I give you guidance on poses.

How many photos do I get?

Fifteen individually edited photos per person, as a digital download via link, plus all further shots unedited as a download. With two people, that's thirty edited photos in total. I take care of the selection and editing to keep quality and style consistent.

In what quality can I download the images?

The photos are taken with professional camera equipment (Sony Alpha 6400, Nikon D610) and then edited individually: colour correction, mood of light, cropping. You receive high-resolution JPEGs that are print-ready and also suitable for larger formats. Raw data (RAW files) is not included.

When do I get the photos after the tour?

Within 3 to 5 working days after the tour you receive the download link by email.

What happens in bad weather?

The tour takes place in any weather, including rain, because real and beautiful images come out of that too. It is only cancelled or postponed in case of a safety risk, for example thunderstorms, storms or fresh snow. The decision is made at the latest two hours before the meeting point. We will then agree on a replacement date, or you will get any amount already paid refunded in full.

Do I have to wear or bring anything special?

No. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in on the mountain and what looks natural. You don't need to bring anything either, unless you want it to be in the photos.

Can I book as a single person?

Yes, that's no problem at all. A single-booking surcharge applies to the price (40 €).

How safe are the tours?

I am a certified mountain hiking guide with first-aid training. Every tour is planned carefully: I check the weather, route conditions and group composition in advance. At the start of every hike there is a safety briefing. The route can be adjusted at any time. Your safety comes before the programme.

Do I need insurance?

Mountain hikes are a nature experience with certain risks, even with professional guidance. I recommend taking out accident or travel insurance that covers recovery and rescue costs. In Austria, the Alpine Club (Alpenverein) or private insurers offer suitable products.

Where do the tours start, and why isn't that on the website?

I deliberately set the exact route and starting point only shortly before the tour. The best route depends on the weather, the path of the sun and the group. As soon as your booking is confirmed, you receive all the details in good time by email: meeting point, directions, route info and packing list.

How far do I have to travel to the meeting point?

Not far. All meeting points lie within at most a 30-minute drive from Schladming. You receive the exact meeting point in the briefing by email after your booking is confirmed.

What happens to the photos, may you use them?

The photos are for your private use. If I would like to use individual shots for marketing or social media, I ask you beforehand and need your written consent. You can say no at any time.

What if I have to cancel?

Up to 2 days before the tour you can cancel free of charge and get the full amount back. With less than 2 days, or if you don't show up, no refund is possible. In the case of a medically certified illness of the person who booked, a short-notice cancellation is also free of charge; for that I need a certificate. Weather-related cancellations on my part are always free of charge. You will find the full cancellation terms in the Terms & Conditions.
