Our classic mountain hikes without photography

Every mountain experience is planned carefully, and we walk on routes that lie away from the usual tourist trails. You don't have to worry about a thing: I know the paths, assess the weather and conditions in advance and choose the route that suits your group. That way you are safe, at a relaxed pace and without any planning stress, and you can give yourself fully to the mountains. Here you will find all the details so you know exactly what to expect.

How a tour with me works

Private tours for your group

These hikes are offered as private tours for your group alone. That way you are out with your own crew and can shape the tour very individually, at your own pace.

Meeting point and getting there

The meeting point is at most a 30-minute drive from the centre of Schladming and is reachable by car. For your private tour we agree on the destination together. You receive the exact address, GPS coordinates and directions in the briefing email the evening before, by 6:00 pm. If something changes on the route at short notice due to the weather, I will get in touch in good time.

Safety and weather

The tour takes place in any weather, including rain. It is only cancelled or postponed in case of a safety risk, for example thunderstorms, storms or fresh snow. The decision is made at the latest two hours before the meeting point. We will then agree on a replacement date, or you will get any amount already paid refunded in full. The minimum age for all hikes is 6 years. Children aged 6 to 14 pay half price on these hikes without photography.

What to bring

After booking you receive all the details about the meeting point and route by email. Here are the basics already, so you can look forward to what matters: the mountains.

  • Sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots, ideally already broken in
  • Weatherproof jacket, even in sunshine. Mountain weather can change quickly.
  • Enough water: at least 1 litre, on full-day tours at least 1.5 litres
  • A snack and provisions for the way
  • Sun protection: cream, cap, sunglasses
  • A small backpack for provisions and jacket

The classic mountain hikes are only available as a private tour, bookable from 2 people. The half-day hike costs 69 € per person, the full-day hike 89 € per person. Prices are per person. If you book on your own, a surcharge applies (30 € on the half-day hike, 40 € on the full-day hike), because planning, travel and guiding stay the same. From the sixth person, the total price of the group does not increase further. Children aged 6 to 14 pay half price. Just write to me.

Yes. Children from age 6 can join these classic hikes without photography, and children aged 6 to 14 pay half price. Please state the children's age in your enquiry so I can plan the route accordingly.

You don't need any particular fitness for the guided mountain hike: a normal base level is enough. On the half-day hikes we are out for about 3 to 4 hours, on the full-day tours about 5 to 6 hours in mountainous terrain. We always go at a relaxed pace and with plenty of breaks. I adapt the route to the group and to your fitness. If in doubt, write to me and I am happy to assess it with you.

Booking happens in four steps. You send a non-binding enquiry via the booking form. I check availability and get back to you within 48 hours with a confirmation and the payment information. As soon as your payment has arrived, your spot is firmly reserved. Shortly before the tour you receive the briefing with the meeting point and all details by email.

Payment is made in cash directly at the meeting point, before the tour starts. Please bring the amount as close to exact as possible, card payment is not possible on site. Multi-day tours are paid in advance instead.

Up to 48 hours before the tour you can cancel free of charge without giving a reason. Since no payment has been made in advance, no refund is necessary in this case. Weather-related cancellations on my part are always free of charge. You will find the full cancellation terms in the Terms & Conditions.

Yes, sturdy ankle-high hiking boots in particular are mandatory. Without them I unfortunately cannot take you along, as safety comes first for me. You will find a full packing list further up on this page. After booking you also receive detailed information by email with the meeting point, route details and recommendations.

I am a certified mountain hiking guide with first-aid training. Every tour is planned carefully: I check the weather, route conditions and group composition in advance. At the start of every hike there is a safety briefing. The route can be adjusted at any time if conditions require it. Your safety comes before the programme.

Yes, private tours are especially popular for birthdays, group celebrations and company outings in the Schladming-Dachstein region. Just write to me with what you have in mind, and I will plan the route and format individually.

Mountain hikes are a nature experience that carries certain risks, even with careful planning and professional guidance. I strongly recommend taking out accident or travel insurance before the tour that covers recovery and rescue costs. Booking a tour with alongside.outdoor does not include insurance. You are responsible for your own insurance cover. In Austria, the Alpine Club (Alpenverein) or private insurers offer suitable products.

For private tours we agree on the destination together, or I am happy to suggest one. I deliberately set the exact route and starting point only shortly beforehand, because the best of it depends on the weather, the path of the sun and the group. As soon as your booking is confirmed, you receive all the details in good time by email: meeting point, directions, route info and what to bring. If something does change for weather reasons, I will get in touch in good time.

You don't have to travel far. All meeting points lie within at most a 30-minute drive from Schladming. You receive the exact meeting point for your tour in the briefing by email after your booking is confirmed.

The meeting point is reachable by car, and parking is always available. On some routes a toll applies per person or per car. With the Schladming-Dachstein Card (included for overnight guests in the region), the toll is free or reduced on many routes. You receive the exact meeting point, directions and any toll information in the briefing by email after your booking is confirmed. Some tours are also reachable by public transport, which is clarified in the briefing too.
