The day revolves around you

On a private photo hike with alongside.outdoor it's just you out there, with no other group. I plan the route around the weather, the age and the fitness of your children, guide you safely through the mountains and photograph alongside with professional gear. We go at the family's pace, with enough time for breaks and a stop at a mountain hut. Within three to five working days you receive fifteen individually edited photos per person plus all remaining shots unedited as a digital download.

From what age does this work?

On the guided hikes children join from the age of six as a rule. There is a reason for this: a mountain tour needs some stamina and sure-footedness, and from this age children can manage the trail well and enjoy the distance instead of having to be carried. But because on private tours I tailor the route entirely to you, younger children are possible by arrangement. Just write to me in the contact form or in your enquiry how old your children are, and I plan the tour so the day turns out lovely and safe for everyone.

Enquiry and pre-call

You write to me how many you are and how old the children are. We have a short call and talk through the weather, fitness and wishes. Then I choose a route that suits your family.

Hike with photography

We hike together at the family's pace and I photograph alongside. At beautiful spots we stop for deliberate shots, otherwise the images come about naturally while the children are simply allowed to be children.

Break at the hut

Along the way we stop at a mountain hut, where the children get a snack and everyone takes a short breather. Which hut works best depends on the route and we discuss it beforehand.

Photo delivery

Within three to five working days after the tour you receive a download link by email with fifteen individually edited photos per person plus all originals unedited.

From what age can children come along?

On the guided hikes children join from the age of six as a rule. This has to do with safety and distance: from this age children can manage a mountain tour well and move safely on the trails. Because on private tours I tailor the route entirely to you, younger children are possible by arrangement. Just write in your enquiry how old your children are.

What does the tour cost for children?

Children: on private hikes the price applies regardless of age, there is no separate discount for children. Forest bathing has a minimum age of 15, multi-day tours a minimum age of 16. The total price is capped at the top for the family, so for larger families it works out cheaper per head.

How strenuous is the hike for children?

As strenuous as you want it to be. I plan the route to match your children's age and fitness, from an easy alpine path with plenty of breaks to a slightly longer tour. We go at the family's pace, with enough time to look around, rest and have a snack along the way.

Do the children have to pose for the photos?

No, quite the opposite. The loveliest family photos happen when children are simply allowed to be children. I photograph documentary-style while we are out walking. If you would like a classic family picture at a beautiful spot, we do that as well, entirely without pressure.

Is it safe with children?

Yes. I am a certified mountain hiking guide and choose only routes that are safely manageable for your family. Before the start there is a short safety briefing, and I keep an eye on the group throughout the entire tour. Safety always comes first with me.

Can we also book without photography?

Yes. Then it becomes a classic private family hike without a camera, all for you. Have a look at the private tours or write to me with what you have in mind.

What happens in bad weather?

In safety-relevant weather such as thunderstorms or storms we move the tour to an alternative date. In light rain we decide together, with children especially safety always comes first. If no alternative date can be found and I cancel for weather or safety reasons, you of course get your money back.
